Tree'mendus Tuesday 15th August-Summer Camp Day 16
'Tree'mendous Tuesday!
Well, what a day π πΏ π π π π π

We had sunshine, 26 kids!! An assault course, teepees and more!
I had to source extra stumps for today due to the expansion of our tribe πand what a wonderful group they were. Kind, considerate, imaginative and hardworking souls.

The theme again was one of my favourites, the true Forest Schoolers from history - Native American Indians who believed everything had a spirit and they respected everything from trees, plants & animals, with the vision that everything would live in harmony.

We started off with the 'go find it' game. Then split the group into two teams - (team leaders were Kirsty and Tom) to play 'does it come from a tree?' After which, we sat down in our activity shelter to learn about NAI symbols and how to use Wooden skewers & black paint to create our own forest School symbols. The older ones went on a boundary work into the wild woods while the little ones started on their paper bag designs.

After snack time the little ones went on the walk while the older members of our tribe got stuck into some path work, digging, carrying chippings and laying more trails- it's looking so fab now!
We pre-made our campfire snacks of choc bananas and toffee apples ( a new thought up recipe π)

Before lunch we worked up a real appetite by taking part in team assault course. Balancing on ropes, jumping over hay bales, hopping in tyres and scrambling under cargo nets. It gave me a warm glow to watch these kids loving every second of this! π π
Again because of the weather the kids enjoyed sessions of free time, making trails, enjoying the hammocks, designing staffs ( some boys became guardians of the woods!!!) and bug hunting.

In the afternoon we all had a go at making a tepee ⛺️ the results were fab and some very focused ones sat for ages and literally could not be dragged away from the weaving!
The afternoon campfire snack was a success and the new 'toffee apples' were a hit π π π π
We ended our day with a final clay activity- stamping Native American style patterns and designs into clay to make warrier jewellery or medallions. These can be air dried and painted/inked once ready and hardened.
We finished around the fire circle toasting marshmallows and drinking got chocolate and ending in reflection. I Particularly liked Jonty's comment- 'I think everyone should do Forest School'!! Love it
