It was all about travel today. We started off by considering if we could go anywhere in the world, where would we go? Ummm London or Australia were our two top most desired destinations 🤗
It was a big group of 21 today and lots of new faces but super to see some familiar faces back again from over 2 weeks ago. Base camp was looking particularly bonnie today, the forecast was wrong and we had mostly sun all day- yay! The 'activity' shelter looked ace filled with hay bales, the new hammocks have added tons of fun to our collection of 4 😆

We started off with our journey of the boundary walk into the wild woods, past Willow woods ( our planted willow has now sprouted shoots!) through our little stream and then over the 'Bog of doom' where to everyone's amusement poor Mollie got STUCK quite literally up to her thighs in mud ( we have since returned to said bog and put more pallets over it! 😱).

We thought we'd lost our Mollie for a moment but very quickly she became un stuck ( hooray- big sighs of relief all round  😜)and we all squelched back up the hill clutching to our ropes and collected sticks on the way out ready for our next task.
Once fed and watered the kids were split into teams, with 5 sticks per person each team had to try and build the tallest tower. They weren't given very long and creativity and team work were key. The height or winning wasn't really the end game, instead we congratulated each group on how they had worked together, how they had all chosen different ways to assemble and stabilise their towers. One group even turned theirs into a beetle home instead.

There was more 'free time' today due to the gorgeous weather and the forest schoolers could either hit the hammocks or go off bug hunting or just explore the outdoors 🤗 🌳 🍃 🍁 🌿
Before lunch we all made and decorated a whittled stick and created a personality to match, these little stick people were a real success, we had some fab multi coloured characters!

After a picnic lunch we set to work on our trails and the tribe worked as a fab team to collect wood/ tree Chippings from a massive pile and fill wheelbarrows full to take back to camp and fill in our established trails. (This is one of the schemas- 'transporting' that we learned about on our forest School training, how children learn through transporting an object to a place and back again)
This certainly worked up an appetite for our quesadillas that we prepped earlier for our campfire snack in the afternoon.

Back on to the theme of travel... we had a final afternoon activity where we made some rafts out of natural objects ( mainly sticks, twins, cardboard pots, skewers and leaves) and took a late afternoon stroll back into the forest to see if our rafts would withstand the rapids of our very shallow stream...some did 👍 😜 🚣🏻

The day finished with hot chocolate and s'mores around our camp fire. A great end to a fab day. Glossop I've missed you!
