Native American Monday 7th August 2017- Summer Camp day 10

Native American Monday 🌲 ⛰ 🏕 🦊 🐻 🦅 🦉
Back in Leek for the start of our 2nd week of 'Nurture and Nature' camps at the Foxlowe Arts Centre. Today our tribe had grown to 18 and we had quite a few elders on board (10-12 year olds). When I arrived this morning, I had crossed everything that the marquee had held out from the heavy rain last night but alas.... it lay in a smashed wreck upon the lawn 😭 ( I have now just bought and ordered an events shelter and this will be with us by Wednesday lunch time!- yay!)

Our fire circle was massive and it took us a lot longer than usual for the introductions. We played our old 'classics' -go find it and it's not a stick! then went over the rules and boundary walk. By this time it was time for Yoga with Deborah. We had to split the group today 'littlies' and 'oldies'. The oldies stayed doing some 'nature craft' and made their quesadillas, while the younger ones stretched, relaxed and chilled in the studio.

I themed the day around the Native American Indians because their whole culture is immersed in nature...and I have a bit of soft spot for these people and their way of life. After a brief chat about their history and culture we spent the most part of the day making mini teepees, dream catchers, card totem poles, arrows and clay totem poles.

The weather was great today, we had lunch outside in the sunshine as well as spot of bug hunting. We finished off with making animal inspired clay totem poles in the sunshine and showed our newbies how to make the best 's'mores' around our camp fire. For some reason the popcorn popped more then usual to everyone's amusement.

After giving ourselves each a 'Native American chief' name we sat around and ended in our daily reflection. Again a day with a superb bunch of kids and thanks to top friends who helped out. An all round great day 🤗.
