Finding Your Wings Friday 11th August 2017- Summer Camp Day 14
Finding your wings Friday ๐ฆ
Today was all about the Fairies, elves and little people. It was lovely to end our two weeks of summer camp in Leek on such a sweet little note.
It was a bit of topsy turvy day due to the fact that we had to pack away at 4pm to head back home to Glossop. Dismantling the shelter and stripping the lawns of all our equipment and belongings meant that we decided to have the camp fire in the morning, perfect timing for brunch.
The kids were very excited about today's theme and it was lovely to have my good friend Sarah Sims in to help ( we were initially running the nature camp together but due to unforeseen circumstances Sarah had to pull out) who has her own company practising mindfulness, yoga, working with tapping, crystals, affirmation mats etc.

We spent the First part of the morning playing games and collecting interesting flowers and nature for later. Then the kids all started on making their own wings out of Willow. The focus from some of the girls today was incredible, they have literally put in hours of work into these creations ๐ค๐๐manipulating the willow, tying, and weaving. While I started the fire, the kids also got to weave fish too!
Today I tried a new campfire snack- thin breads, dipped in egg and cheese ( or there was a Nutella alternative of course๐). These went down really well, each child got the chance to keep toasting small squares of bread ( and marshmallows) until the fire burned down and went out. A lovely way to end our campfire experience of the last two weeks.

Our final bug hunt, a beetle was even found crawling over my shoulder๐ซand then lunch before we said farewell to the lawn.
Back inside our creative studio we cracked on with an afternoon of crafting- finishing off wings, making crowns and putting together little fairy doors๐๐๐๐

While I tidied up and packed away with sarah B ( art teacher) the other Sarah ( it's getting confusing now๐) ended the day with a short session on crystals and medicine bags where the pouch represents a space for healing, letting go of worries and manifesting your wishes. The crystal represents the healing aspect. So the kids dedicated a crystal to heal, then can place photos or names of people they want to send healing to.
Our last circle time and I even had a little tear in my eye. Will miss these guys and the place so much. Such a wonderful two weeks of camp in Leek at the Foxlowe. So proud of my home town for their support, amazing feedback and wonderful future generations of Forest school Leekendzians!!!
