Fear me Friday 4th August 2017- Summer Camp Day 9
'Fear me Friday'
I can't begin to tell you what an awesome day today was! We had a LOT of boys!....so I thought it was a good excuse to embrace the inner warrior in us all and theme the day around that.
I arrived at the Foxlowe to find our mini marquee was sitting upside down on the other side of the lawn. it didn't take long for Helen, Tiff and I to get it back on its feet.

Again another drizzly start but we went for a crafty morning and a very physical outdoors afternoon. While the wee ones did Yoga with Angela, the older 5 created picture frames from square lashing sticks together, we then cut out pre-stencilled leaf patterns and threaded them with wire to hang within the frames.

Choc bananas were prepared for later and once the older ones had finished Yoga (unbelievably the sun came out) we went out bug hunting before lunch!
After picnicking outside in the sunshine, we played duck, duck, goose-before learning all about my favourite warriors from New Zealand, the 'Mauris'. Our tribe listened intently to how and why they tattooed themselves, they heard all about the haka and why it was so special. Then we set about crushing our own natural ingredients and creating some scary war paint. Check out the state of Helen and I.

Once ready for battle we trooped down into Brough park to collect the perfect sticks to make spears as well as learning all about Elder and how to use loppers to cut the Elder. Back at base camp we made spears with oak leaves and whittled tips ( I did the knife skills here). We also continued from the success of yesterday and made more Elder necklaces. Who knew popping the 'pith' out with a tent peg could be so satisfying?
While Tiff stoked the fire, we ate our choc bananas and ended with toasting marshmallows and enjoying the obligatory 's'mores'.
A fantastic end to a wonderful week. Leek you have been a delight, the Foxlowe is a brilliant venue and the kids of Leek....you are just marvellous.
